Spinacia oleracea
Spinacia oleracea
43 to 55 days — Also known as 'American Long Standing' and 'American.' Plants reach about eight inches in height. Produces heavy yields of thick, dark-green savoyed leaves. It is slow-growing, slow to bolt, and resistant to heat and drought. 'America' spinach is a long-standing Bloomsdale-type that is suitable for canning, freezing, and eating fresh.
An "All-America Selection®" winner in 1952, 'America' was bred by N.V. Sluis en Groot, Enkhuizen, Holland as a stabilized cross between 'Bloomsdale Dark Green' and 'Viking'. Each packet contains two grams, which is approximately 150 seeds.
