80 days — 'Chinese Red' pea plants are erect and reach twenty-four to thirty-six inches in height. Its purple flowers develop into six inch long pods that are scattered throughout the plants. They typically reach the green shelling stage in 55 to 60 days and to the dry stage at 75 to 80 days.
'Chinese Red' is a popular variety for wildlife food plots and cover crop plantings. Most cowpeas will add 50 to 150 pounds of nitrogen per acre if plowed under when the bush is in full bloom! If planned for grazing, allow 45 days for the plants to get established. Each one ounce contains approximately 140 seeds.
