Dixie Queen
90 days — The fruit of 'Dixie Queen' watermelons have dark green stripes over a thin but tough, light green rinds. They are generally round, but can be oblong and reach up to forty pounds. The pink colored flesh is crisp and deliciously sweet.
In researching its history, there are two different narratives circulating. Some sources state that it was bred and introduced by Johnson & Stokes Seed Company of Philadelphia in 1890. He have reviewed the 1890 edition, as well as years before and years after and could find no corroborating evidence. The first document that we found listing 'Dixie Queen' was in the December 28, 1933 edition of the Cornelli Seed Company wholesale seed list. Starting in 1935, many mail order started listing it. Each packet contains two grams, which is about 20 seeds.
