Early Jersey Wakefield
75 days — An early variety, 'Early Jersey Wakefield' cabbage is generally grown for a summer harvest, but does also overwinter well. The plants are short stemmed and yields conical, seven inch in diameter, green colored heads with a fine tender texture and mild flavor.
Introduced into the U.S. by Francis Brill, then living in New Jersey. Originally grown by Mr. Brill and a few neighbors, 'Early Jersey Wakefield' began as a natural cross between 'Wakefield' cabbage from England and other varieties being commercially grown in the area. According to Mr. Brill, Peter Henderson was the first to introduce this variety to the general public in the 1850s. Each packet contains 0.5 gram, which is approximately 75 seeds.
