Edisto 47
Cucumis melo L. Reticulatus Group
90 days — The oval fruit grow large (three to five pounds) on vigorous vines. The are medium netted with light ribs. Bred as a larger improved Edisto-type melon, 'Edisto 47' does well in hot, humid conditions and exhibits improved disease resistance to alternaria, powdery mildew and downy mildew.[1,2]
Bred and introduced by Dr. Morris B. Hughes.[1] of the Clemson University, South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station, Blackville, South Carolina. 'Edisto 47' is the result of a stabilized cross between an F8 of a sister line of 'Edisto' with 'Georgia 47'.[3] Introduced in 1964.[1,2] About 30 seeds per one gram packet.
